I'll be visiting near Maastricht and would love to have some recommendations of trails near Cadier en Keer, places to rent decent bikes and possibly some riding buddies between 27 January and 30 January. One or maybe 2 rides need to be planned. Can anyone help?

I'm an upper intermediate rider. Lokking to do about 20-30 miles?

My e-mail is kohnb@comcast.net.

THANKS!

look at

www.mtbroutes.nl for the routes in that area.
Met een botte bijl moet je gewoon wat harder slaan dan met een scherpe.

Cadier en Keer is not far from Gulpen (where our nationals where held for years, only the best feature is now under a big layer of concreet) I used to go there for trainingweekends. Also Valkenburg aan de Geul is at a bike-ride's distance.

Gulpen
Lenght: 25 km.
Signs: international MTB sign in blue, white marks the transitions to other trails in de area.
Start: Rocca, near the pool Mosaqua and/or Foreldorado. Is being marked with signs and info-boards.

Info: VVV Zuid-Limburg, 0900-9798

Extra: You can buy a map for 4,50 at the VVV (tourist info) which shows all the trails in that area also with level of difficulty.

(all translated from mtbroutes.nl)

It's best to get one of these maps, there al so many great trails there, (small loops of 4-7km and loops of 25, 30-25 or 51km. The 51km is a conjoined loop near Heerlen, brunsemmerheide as been mentioned earlier, it's worth a ride) some really close to Cadier en Keer, some a bit by bike or car. The area is fabulous, Holland on it's best, I think. Some parts have wicked names like the "widowmaker" and the "king of spain", but that one is under concrete and not the spectacular killer climb it used to be.

Flink bedankt alemaal, for your postings. I'm revved up and ready to ride. Flying out tomorrow (a little concerned that there may be too much snow...) but if weather does not allow me to ride there's always beer!
MTBers are great! :-q

PS: like the references to Lance and all that. Better than Bush (but he can't ride a bike I'm sure). Don't know what gevorderd means either. But then the answer may be Yes...
Thanks again.

Hello Zaskar

I'm in Plano, just North of Dallas. We ride mostly single track around here. You can check out the trails at www.dorba.org. Did you ride when you visited Texas?

To all those who answered my questions: THANKS. I ended up riding the Brunsumerheide trail,.... in the snow! That's novel for me lately. I just got back from Europe and also managed to fit in a ride in England. Really enjoyed the Brunsummerheide, despite getting lost around some farms and near the intersection of loop 1 and 4 (where all the digging is being done). Signs are good except for loop intersection points.

Come over and ride Texas some time y'all.

No, I didn't ride when I was in Texas, didn't bring my bike and didn't have the time (my girlfriend doesn't want to). However, I visited some parcs like Palo Duro Canyon, Big Bend, White Sands (New Mexico) and those caves south of White Sands (Guadolupe????). We drove 2500 miles in just 10 days of holiday....

Don't know if I'll come again to Lone Star State...
